There aint no place like this...

Continuing Dubai-theme, I will share some pics from the lovely desert of Dubai with you...

One of my dreams are to one day spend some more time in the desert and sleep under the stars.

This time, which was my first visit to the desert ever, was just a couple of hours and to be honest a little bit too touristic, by me and my sweet mamma had a great time anyway:)

We were picked up by our driver with the 4WD Jeep about 16.00 in the afternoon and then headed out, through the heavy traffic of Dubai, to the outskirts, and then finally came closer and closer to the sanddunes of the real desert...

To start of with, there was quite a lot of sandbashing (really a little bit too much, but I suppose they think most tourists love that...) Anyway, it was ok, though we thought at least of of the cars in the Jeep-caravan would turn over, noone did, the drivers must have been very used to driving in deep loose sand...

After 2 quick stops, for sandboarding and visiting a small camelfarm (with opportunities for photographing) we reached our desertcamp. Instead of joining the touristic camelriding and other activities we went for a short walk and found a place of our own where we sat down and just enjoyed the silence and peace of the desert while watching the sunset...

After about an hour the dinner-buffet (arabic style) was ready, and to my surprise it was so good! Before heading back to the bustling city I had some henna painted on my hand, and although it could not compare to the henna I use to make in Morocco, it was very nice:)

When we are talking about hotels and resorts...

As one of my most fatithful readers just commented, can a hotel really have 7 stars, or is it just a way for them to promote themselves? Burj Al Arab claims to be the only 7-starhotel in the world.

Actually, according to what I have heard a hotel can just have 5 stars, and as I wrote back to Linda, that I think Burj Al Arab is officially also classified as a 5-starhotel...

And while we are on this topic, hotels and resorts, I think there are more beautiful places to stay in, that also woule be better worth the money spent, than Burj Al Arab...

Aireal view over Dubai, all the high buildings down there are the scyscrapers of Sheikh al Sayeed Road...


Dubai-creek traffic by night... An abra-station in Bur Dubai. The abras are the small boats crossing the creek for 1 dh each way, also possible to rent for about 50 dh/ hour to go up and down the Khor... Definately something I will do next time Inchallah.


And here is the Khor/Dubai creek at daytime. Here you can see the abras are working 24/7...


Jumeirah mosque - according to many Emiratis and tourists the most beautiful mosque in Dubai. Also the only mosque that is open to tourists and non-muslims in order to increase the understanding of Islam. About twice a week there is a course in this mosque called "Open doors - Open minds" a program conducted by the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding (SMCCU).


Once again an abra-station in Bur Dubai...

A glimpse into the Old Souk in Bur Dubai. If you ask me, not really a traditional arabic souk, but still seem to be very popular as it is highly recommended in all guide-books.

As the biggest fan of the Arabian nights, I just had to take a photo of these lovely Aladdin-lamps in Al-Jaber Gallery, probably the best place to look for nice souvernirs and small presents in Dubai... This particular shop is located in Deira City Center, an old, but yet most popular malls in Dubai, really a nice place for shopping and dining.

Gold, gold and gold... Dubai is the city of GOLD!

All this gold should be for me as my gift for my future-wedding I think... hihi...

One of the first refections from Dubai... No matter how strange you might find it (or not?)...

Men in dishdasha... Hm... That´s really something:P I don´t know why or in which way I find it so damn attractive, but what I know is that if my man was an Emirati, there would be no discussion: He would have to wear the traditional dishdasha...

So what is a dishdasha??

This is the official definition by webster´s:
Main Entry: dish·dasha
Pronunciation: \ˌdish-ˈdä-shə\
Function: noun
Etymology: Arabic dishdāsha
Date: 1938
: a long usually white robe traditionally worn by men in the Middle East

In Dubai and the UAE most Emirati men tend to wear a dishdasha, usually white and long, combined with a keffiyeh (a headscarf or a square of cloth) either in white or in Palestinian patterns. The keffiyeh is usually folded in half, into a triangle, and the fold is worn across the forehead. Often, the keffiyeh is held in place by a black rope circlet, called an agal.

And yes, this is really so attractive... And yes again... You are allowed to think I am strange... Or maybe you even agree with me??

Even if you don´t agree with me, I am sure you will not be able to tell this little dishdasha-wearing man is not absolutely gorgeous?

TEMA: Dubai - från sandöken till storstad på 40 år!

Dear friends...

I am back in Sweden again, this time with sweet memories of Dubai in my mind...

As some of you already know, I´ve spent 5 days in the amazing city Dubai last week.

Dubai is really something different, completely different of what I had expected, but still a city that leaves me with nice memories and a place I know I want to go back to.

In the 5 days I had, honestly, I just got a glimpse of this huge city, I got a taste of something sweet, which I want more of... I have already started to plan my next trip to the Middle-east (at least in my mind)...

So, to celebrate this city, and to let you know some of my thoughts and reflections of this metropole, I have decided to dedicate a whole week (or slightly more) to Dubai.

So folks, follow me through the whole world in one city, some lovely shopping-sites (that you will unlikely find anywhere else), the modern luxurious city of oil and sheikhs, and the city where there was nothing but deep desert and pearlfarm-villages less than 50 years ago...

More interiors...

Halloj... Det börjar bli länge sedan det publicerades något från "mitt hus"... Så här kommer ett litet hop-plock av inredning à la Marocaine igen...

Först ut är lite handmålad keramik och artisanat... I just LOVE it! Måste verkligen ta mig till Safi someday soon, där kan man handla hur mycket sådant här som helst för nästan inga pengar alls!

Älskar både färg och form på detta lilla badrum... Skulle passa utmärkt som badrum nr. 2 i mitt marockanska hus...

Over and out för idag... Nästa gång tror jag att inredningen kommer att bestå av en massa härliga lampor att lysa upp er vardag med!

Vill ha... Nästan som ett eget hammam...

Idag har jag hittat något som jag verkligen skulle vilja ha här hemma...

Jag som älskar hammam också, tycker att detta vore helt perfekt för mig...

Äntligen en plats att använa min savon baldi och ksel utan att förstöra hela badrummet och på köpet få fina fuktskador, hihi;)

Kolla in vad det är jag snackar om, skulle det inte vara underbart??

Frågan är bara om man skulle ha lyxversionen här nedan, med både spa-bad, och steamshower i ett, eller om man skulle nöja sig med bara duschdelen...?

Här är i alla fall beskrivningen...

Ångbastu med 2 sittplatser, bubbelbad för 2 personer med 6 st stora massagemunstycken på sidorna och 14 st munstycken i botten. Massageväggar med totalt 30 st munstycken,, tropiskt regn, telefon (inkommande och utgående samtal), FM-radio, högtalare, CD-ingång, handdusch, 8 mm härdade säkerhetsglas, nackkuddar, terapibelysning, timer, spegel, komplett blandarpaket. Scottish shower- växlar mellan varmt och kallt vatten med 5 sekunders intervaller m.m. ...

Och det bästa av allt är att priset inte var skyhögt... Ok, lite får man väl lägga ut, men det är ändå helt överkomligt!

Appropå hammam och savon baldi, här kommer en liten film som jag hittade på youtube... Så här kul som dessa killar från Agadir, kan man också ha i ett hemma-hammam med savon baldi... En liten varning till fastande, kolla efter ftour;) Hihi:)

Dagens nytt: Positiv feedback och jobbnytt...

Ja, idag är det då den 2/9, tiden går så snabbt så snabbt...

Har varit på jobbet som vanligt, och det var en helt ok dag trots över-överbeläggningar på avdelningen... Igårkväll hade jag däremot en riktigt stressig kväll på jobbet, och då ska ni veta att jag är väldigt svår-stressad och arbetar snabbt (om man nu själv får säga det...)...

Idag fick jag i alla fall lite uppskattning på jobbet:) Eller nu låter jag ju så där bitter och negativ, som om man aldrig fick uppskattning, och så är det ju inte... Senast igår fick jag så mycket beröm av en patient så jag blev alldeles rörd... Men hur härligt det än är med beröm från patienter så är det något annat med beröm från kollegor, särskilt från läkarna, eftersom man vet att de inte gärna berömmer en "bara sådär"... Nej, man måste nog verkligen ha gjort ett bra jobb för att höra någon positiv feedback från läkarna, dels för att de ständigt är så stressade, dels för att de oftast försvinner från avdelningen så snabbt ronden är färdig för att rusa iväg till någon spännande och blodig operation:)

Men idag var det alltså dags igen:) Vi har en väldigt duktig och ödmjuk ST-läkare (på väg att bli specialist för er som inte är vana vid sjukhusförkortningar)... Jag har jobbat en del med honom, och visste väl redan innan att han uppskattar mitt arbete, eftersom han till och med erbjudit sig att vara min referens vid ett eventuellt jobb-byte:) Nu är det ju så att jag nyligen sökt ett extra-jobb (som att jag skulle ha så mycket tid för mer jobb, hihi...), och Dr. V (som vi kan kalla honom var min referens)... Idag kom han i alla fall till avdelningen och rondade, och passade då på att fråga om jag fått jobbet. Jag berättade att jag hade fått det, och han gratulerade mig och berättade lite av vad han sagt om mig:)

Chefen på det nya stället var lite orolig för att jag var så ung och bara har varit färdig sjuksköterska i 1 1/2 år, men sa att hon ändå tyckte att jag var väldigt mogen för min ålder, och att hon trodde att jag skulle passa in på stället i fråga... Dr. V. hade då sagt att han höll med till fullo, och berättat att han uppskattar mitt arbete väldigt mycket, och slutligen tillagt att han "kunde tillåta den nya chefen att anställa mig, men bara som extra-ssk, eftersom han och kliniken var så måna om att få behålla mig och mitt fina arbete och absolut inte ville förlora mig till någon annan"... Riktigt gulligt av honom, blev så glad av att höra det!!

Tänk vad lite beröm kan göra en glad... Var bara tvungen att dela min glädje lite med er:)
